Some excursions have been planned many months in advance and unavoidably dates / details may change, so we reserve the right to amend any excursion or itinerary contained within our programme or otherwise advertised. Should you need to cancel / amend your place on an excursion more than 72 hours before travel, a fee of £5 per person per excursion will apply. If the excursion(s) include admission fees, these may also be payable. If you need to cancel / amend less than 72 hours before travel then a 100% cancellation charge will apply. All day excursions need a minimum number of passengers to operate. Where ever practically possible we will run all our excursions as advertised; however, we reserve the right to cancel excursions should the numbers be too low. Children are, unless otherwise stated, classed as being between the ages of 3 to 15 years old on the day of the excursion. Passengers over the age of 15 must, unless otherwise stated, pay the adult fare. Infants under the age of 3 years old are free to travel as long as they do not occupy a seat on the coach. If you wish for your infant to have their own seat then the child fare must be paid.




Please read these terms and conditions carefully, they are important they form the basis of a legally binding contract between you, the person signing the booking form and all the other persons named on the form and ourselves JH/Thirlwell’s Coaches.




When booking a holiday, you must sign the booking form on behalf of your party accepting the terms of the Fair-Trading Charter and pay a deposit of £50.00 per person.


We do not sell Travel Insurance and cannot give out advice on travel insurance cover. However, we strongly advise all passengers to take out Travel Insurance, but do not accept any responsibility for inadequate cover per person.



If you make a booking with JH/Thirlwell’s Coaches we will hold on our records your personal details. We use this information to accept you as a new or returning customer to communicate with you and provide you with the products and services you have requested in accordance with our terms and conditions. We retain this data for no longer than is necessary for the purpose for which it was provided. We securely erase your data from our system when it is no longer needed. We do not share this information with any third parties. You can withdraw your consent at any time by contacting JH/Thirlwell’s Coaches.




Your Booking Form must be accompanied by the relevant deposit as above. The balance must be paid at least 8 weeks before your departure WITHOUT REMINDER FROM THE COMPANY. All passengers money paid to JH/Thirlwell’s Coaches are covered by a Financial Failure Insurance in the unlikely event of JH/Thirlwell’s Coaches going into Liquidation.




Surcharges will only come into effect due to Government action.




If you are prevented from proceeding with your holiday or wish to amend your holiday booking administration charges may be made.




Should you wish to cancel your holiday, this must be put in writing to the Company. If cancellation is made 8 weeks or more prior to date of departure, the Company will retain your Deposit. Should cancellation be made within 8 weeks of your holiday, cancellation charges will apply as follows:

If we cancel your holiday due to lack of numbers or circumstances beyond our control at any time up to 8 weeks before departure, we are liable only for any monies paid to us at the time of cancellation. However, if we cancel your Holiday within 8 weeks (4 weeks on tours of less than 6 days) of departure, we will refund all your monies and pay you compensation on scale as follows.

We do reserve the right to use a small coach if numbers are insufficient.




We have a limited amount of space and would ask customers NOT TO EXCEED ONE MEDIUM SIZED SUITCASE PER PERSON, with your name and address clearly marked. Any damage to luggage or loss must be reported immediately to our driver/courier, and upon your return a letter should be sent to our office stating details of damage or loss to enable you

to claim.




Central pick up points Newcastle - Gateshead - Winlaton - Ryton - Washington Services areas and en-route between these points. Any out of the area pick up will incur a surcharge. All passengers to be picked up at a point arranged when booking or prior to holiday. Please contact our office during the week prior to holiday for time and details.




Whilst every effort will be made by ourselves to accommodate these requests i.e. room situation which we will pass onto the Hotel and seating requirements in the Dining Room and on the Coach, no guarantee can be made.




Many travellers have their favourite seats so book early to avoid disappointment. We reserve the right to amend seat numbers for operational reasons.




If you have a complaint about any of the services throughout your holiday, as a term of our Contract, the matter must be brought to the immediate attention of our Driver/Courier who will do his/her best to remedy the problem on the spot. If you are still not satisfied you must write to us within 7 days of your return and we will try and settle the matter amicably, we will not accept liability for claims received after that date.




We want everyone to enjoy our travel arrangements and are more than happy to advise and assist you in choosing a suitable holiday. However, as some of the accommodation and resorts featured may not cater for even minor disabilities, it is important that, when booking, you advise us of any disability or specific need you may have and any special requirements that will make sure the holiday is suitable. If we are not informed, we cannot accept any responsibility for inconvenience or cost incurred. Folding wheelchairs can be carried, please notify when booking. Motorised Wheelchairs/Scooters CANNOT be accepted, due to Health and Safety issues.




In accordance with Passenger protection policy for insolvency cover in respect of the Package Travel & Linked Travel Regulations 2018 all passengers booking with Jim Hughes Coaches Ltd are fully protected for the initial deposit and subsequently the balance of all monies paid to us, including repatriation costs, arising from cancellation or curtailment of your travel arrangements due to the insolvency of Jim Hughes Coaches Ltd. There is no requirement for Financial Protection of day trips, and none is provided.


Consumer aware:

Your booking is insured by IPP Ltd and its panel of insurers. – This insurance is only valid for passengers who book and pay directly with/to Jim Hughes Coaches Ltd. If you have booked and/or paid direct to a Travel Agent for a holiday with Jim Hughes Coaches Ltd please request proof of how the booking is secured as this will not be covered by IPP Ltd in this instance. Should you need to cancel or amend your booking more than 72 hours before the outward journey, a charge of £5.00 per person will apply or within 72 hours of the outward journey then a 100% cancellation charge will apply. Once the outward journey has taken place, no amendments or cancellations can be made and new tickets will be charged at the full fare. Children aged between 3 and 15 years of age inclusive may travel at the child fare. Infants under the age of 3 years old travel free of charge as long as they do not occupy a seat on the coach. If you wish for your infant to have their own seat then the child fare must be paid. For reasons of safety, JH Coaches will not carry unaccompanied children under the age of 14 years old, all children must be accompanied by a responsible person aged 16 or over. Passengers who take advantage of the discounted student rate must show a valid photographic student ID card when boarding the coach, otherwise the difference between the adult and student rate becomes payable. Customers are responsible for ensuring that they are at the correct pick-up point at least 10 minutes before the scheduled time of departure as JH Coaches, Fell Bank, Birtley, Co Durham, DH3 2SP will not refund the ticket cost or be held liable for any loss or expense suffered by customers as a result of their late or non-arrival at their chosen pick-up point, or if they are waiting at the wrong place. It is the customers responsibility to ensure that they take their own luggage from the coach as JH Coaches will not be held responsible for any charges incurred in retrieving it from another passenger. JH Coaches will not be held responsible for any lost property which has not been correctly and clearly labelled. Passengers are carried in accordance with the company’s Booking Conditions of Carriage, copies of which are available for inspection at the address above. Smoking and the consumption of alcohol are not permitted at any time on any JH Coach. A penalty fare will be charged for any passenger found to be travelling without a valid ticket, the charge is £20.00 plus the full single fare from the boarding point to the destination.
